作家プロフィール
1978年 東京生まれ
2000年に六代目歌川豊国に師事。まもなく六代目が他界したため、独学で浮世絵を学び、個展やグループ展を中心に活動。
UKIYO-E PROJECTとのコラボレーションの他、『STAR WARS』浮世絵「星間大戦絵巻」や『COBRA』浮世絵「宇宙海賊 狐舞邏」を発表。尾上松也自主公演『挑む』、大阪駅前のGRAND FRONT OSAKA３周年キービジュアルや、ドラマ『石川五右衛門』（市川海老蔵主演/ テレビ東京系列）のメインビジュアルを担当するなど活動も盛んに。近年では国立西洋美術館で開催された『北斎とジャポニズム』では葛飾北斎とのコラボレーション、「New Era X Masumi Ishikawa」のプロダクトコラボレーション、『STAR WARS 歌舞伎』メインヴィジュアルなど、現在の活動は多岐に渡っており、新たな浮世絵表現の画家、絵師として各界から注目されている。

版元コメント
歌川国芳の「国芳もやう正札附現金男 唐犬権兵衛」をベースに、ポール・スタンレーがメイクをしている様子をイメージして作成。着物の柄は地獄変妖図でジーン・シモンズを閻魔大王に、トミー・セイヤー、エリック・シンガーを鬼に見立てています。帯の柄はエリック以外の家紋風マークにし、肩に掛けた手ぬぐいの柄をエリックのベストに施されている「○に力の字模様」にしました。背景には代表曲「Rock and Roll All Nite」のサビ部分を和訳で表現しました。

Artist's Profile
1978 Born in Tokyo
Ishikawa becomes a disciple of Master Utagawa Toyokuni VI in 2000, but due to his master’s sudden passing, Ishikawa has continued to pursue the Utagawa aesthetics on his own, and actively holds both solo shows and group exhibitions.
Other than works with UKIYO-E PROJECT, Ishikawa has created illustrations for ukiyo-e in collaboration with Star Wars and Cobra; key visuals for GRAND FRONT OSAKA’s 3rd anniversary; poster designs for Onoe Matsuya’s solo show Idomu; key visuals for television series Ishikawa Goemon, to name a few.
Ishikawa’s recent works include a collaboration with KATSUSHIKA Hokusai for the exhibition Hokusai and Japonisme held at the National Museum of Western Art, a collaborative clothing line with New Era, and key visuals for the contemporary kabuki adaptation of Star Wars.

This image of Paul Stanley putting on makeup is based on Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s Token Gonbei, Kuniyoshi Moyo Shofuda Tsuketari Genkin Otoko (“Men of Ready Money with True Labels Attached, Kuniyoshi Style”). A lot of Ishikawa’s ukiyo-e is influenced by Kuniyoshi, and this piece is a tribute to him. The pattern of the kimono is called jigoku-ezu (meaning inferno picture). Gene Simmons is the Great King Yama, and the other two are the ogres. The logos on the obi (kimono belt) are the members' makeup design, arranged into Japanese-style family crests, while the pattern “力” of the towel on Paul’s left shoulder is inspired by Eric Singer’s outfit. The script above Paul is the Japanese translation of the famous lyrics, “I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day. You keep on shoutin’, you keep on shoutin’” from their hit song Rock and Roll All Nite.
